Matchday 17 round-up: Plateau Utd return to summit, as Nasarawa Utd thump MFM 4-0

Plateau United returned to the summit of the league with a hard fought 1-0 win at home to visiting Wikki Tourists at the Rwang Pam Stadium. United were dislodged from top spot in midweek by Lagos side, MFM, who got trounced 4-0 by Nasarawa United at the Lafia City Stadium.

Reuben Bala's penalty in the 57th minute was the differnce as Keneddy Boboye's side repelled Wikki's late advances.

Fidelis Ilechukwu's MFM failed to continue their impressive run away from home, in some disappointing manner, conceding in the very first minute when Adamu Hassan scored. Yinka Onaolapo, Anthonin Oussou and Abdulrahman Bashir got the other goals for Kabiru Dogo's Nasarawa United in the 4-0 win.

At the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, Akwa United thumped Shooting Stars of Ibadan 4-2. Alhassan Ibrahim scored a hat-trick in the first half, after Ubong Friday had given the hosts the lead in the 11th minute. Moses James and Taiwo Shittu scored in the 58th and 90th minute respectively to reduce the deficit.

Rivers United's woes continued as they lost 0-1 at Gombe United. Idris Bakare got the goal for the home side in the 26th minute. The striker was however sent off for a second bookable offence two minutes to time.

Pascal Seka's late goal was the the magic FC Ifeanyiubah needed to overcome a resilient Sunshine Stars of Akure at the Ifeanyiubah Stadium, Nnewi. The home side got themselves into some difficult situation, when Prince Aggreh blazed over a spot kick early in the second half. Joseph Abbey's strike in the 64th minute gave the visitors the lead, but Godwin Obaje drew level for the Nnewi side in the 77th minute from the spot.

Ibrahim Babawo's brace saw Niger Tornadoes continue their winning run at home with a 2-1 win against Lobi Stars of Makurdi. Luther Iyorhe got Lobi's consolation.

Samuel Mathias struck for the ninth time this season to help his side to a 1-0 win over Kano Pillars. At Sagamu, Eric Dufegha's late effort was all Remo Stars needed to overcome Katsina United.

At the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar, Mfon Udoh's brilliance, two minutes from time, sealed a win for seven-time champions, Enyimba against reigning champions, Rangers. Daniel Etor had given Rangers the lead in the 7th minute, before substitute Chukwude Stephen restored parity ten minutes into the second half. The result means Rangers keep their place at the bottom of the log.

Sunday Adetunji's brace, late on, handed Abia Warriors a famous win at home to ABS at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

Matthias (El-Kanemi), Alhassan Ibrahim (Akwa United) and Sunday Adetunji (Abia Warriors) increased their tally to nine in the race for the golden boot.
