Kelechi Ogoh was the hero of the day as Sunshine Stars defeated FC Ifeanyiubah in a Matchday 37 clash of the NPFL at the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode.
Ogoh replaced Nojeem Raji in the starting line-up after Raji picked up as knock in warm-up. Three goals in the second half and one in the first half was enough to ensure that Sunshine Stars pick all three points in a one-sided encounter.
The Akure Gunners, knowing full well that victory against FC Ifeanyiubah would help their cause in confirming their safety in the NPFL, started the game brightly and were quickly presented with an opportunity in the third minute of the game as Ajibola Otegbeye's free kick was headed away to safety by FC Ifeanyiubah captain Elu Wilson.
Five minutes later, referee Yohanna Datom pointed to the spot after Traore Sory bumped into on rushing Otegbeye, but he quickly made up for the error by saving the spot kick. Referee awarded Sunshine State another penalty in the 18th minute after Sory again fouled Otegbeye in the box. This time, Otegbeye made no mistake as he slotted the ball home to give Sunshine Stars the lead.
At the restart of the game, FC Ifeanyiubah charged forward, getting a free kick which Olamilekan 'Adeleye' Aniyikaye could only blast off target. The Akure Gunners continued to impose themselves as the game wore on. They came close again in the 27th minute through a counter-attacking move by Boboye Ezekiel, but Kehinde Adedipe could not make the most of the attack.
Three minutes later, FC Ifeanyiubah were presented with a chance through a counter-attack initiated by Elu, but the attack was stopped by Sunshine Stars' captain Alaba Adeniyi.
The Anambra Warriors' defence was kept busy for most part of the first half and it took Aniyikaye's timely block to stop Dayo Ojo's effort from going in. Two minutes before half time, Sory was called into action yet again as he pushed Sikiru Alimi's well taken shot.
Sunshine Stars came into the second half even more revved up than they were in the first half with a flurry of chances to double their lead. Ogoh doubled the lead for the host in the 55th minute following a scramble in the box from a well taken corner brought down by Boboye Ezekiel. FC Ifeanyiubah had a chance in the 67th minute of the game as Isaac Loute's cross into the box missed John Juan's head by inches.
The Anambra Warriors again threatened in the 72nd minute when Ayorinde who replaced Kone had his header off Elu's cross straight into the hands of goalkeeper Henry Ayodele. A minute later, Ogoh scored his brace, heading a Dayo Ojo cross past Traore.
Substitute Tope Orelope put the icing on the cake in the 80th minute as he capitalized on a defensive switch off to round off the goalkeeper to score Stars' fourth goal.
Things turned sour for the Anambra Warriors as they were reduced to 10 men following Isaac Baadu's injury as Sunshine Stars ran out four-nil winners over FC Ifeanyiubah.
